MB ChB FRANZCO After gaining his medical degree from Otago, Dr James (Jim) Stewart trained as a GP in Britain. Exposure to Ophthalmology during this encouraged him to change direction and he completed his specialist training in both Britain and New Zealand. In 1993 Dr Jim Stewart spent a year at the charitable St John’s Eye Hospital in Jerusalem, followed by 10 months glaucoma and oculoplastic specialisation in Glasgow. After locum work in Australia, he then completed a glaucoma fellowship year in Seattle, USA. Dr Jim Stewart currently works as a general Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist in public and private practice in Hamilton (at the Waikato Public Hospital and the Hamilton Eye Clinic). Dr Stewart reaches out into the wider Waikato community by holding regular private satellite clinics in both Matamata and Morrinsville. Dr Jim Stewart has recently (June 2007) been appointed as Chairman of Ophthalmology New Zealand. |
